General History
Preston Memorial Hospital is a state licensed, 25-bed critical access, acute care facility, located in Kingwood, WV. It is a nonprofit corporation and county owned. PMH opened its doors on July 16, 1955 and was formerly dedicated on September 29, 1955 during the annual Buckwheat Festival. Preston Memorial Hospital was dedicated to the memory of the men and women of Preston County who served in the armed forces and to those who paid the supreme sacrifice.
Serving the Needs of Northern West Virginia
Preston Memorial Hospital is a rural hospital with vision, diversity, stability and a future. While many hospitals, especially rural hospitals, are closing because of ever declining reimbursement for the services they provide, Preston Memorial Hospital continues to get stronger by offering new programs, new services, and operating more efficiently. Besides providing excellent healthcare services, Preston Memorial also is a strong contributor to the county’s economic status as it is the third largest employer in Preston County.

Preston Birth Center remains one of the few comprehensive birth centers in the state which encourages family-centered maternity care.
