Can you imagine giving birth in a place that provides you with all the comforts of home and all the safety features of a hospital? Can you imagine a place where you can be surrounded by family and friends, all the while knowing that should the need arise, specialized medical care is just a moment away? Could such a place actually exist?
It does exist at Preston Birth Center — a safe home-like setting in which women may give birth. A family centered birth center with specially trained staff whose main goal is to meet the needs and desires of our patients. Patients are generally very pleased with their birthing experience at PMH as you can see from one comment that was received recently from a new mother who gave birth at PMH’s Birth Center. “You’ve never really had a baby until you’ve delivered at Preston Birth Center. The staff at the Birth Center is so attentive and always pays special attention to the needs of Mom, baby, and family to make them as comfortable as possible. There was always a nurse available when I needed something and you don’t always get that from a bigger facility. The entire experience was wonderful.”
Preston Birth Center offers Childbirth Classes every Tuesday from 7:00 p.m.– 9:00 p.m. Mothers and their support persons are encouraged to join other expectant parents in this fun, supportive setting to fully prepare you for the birth experience and the care of your baby. Here you will learn about the options Preston Birth Center offers and start to plan your special delivery.
Breastfeeding classes will also be offered. Preston’s lactation consultant’s goal is to deliver optimal care to nursing infants and their mothers with consistent and accurate breastfeeding education and outreach. If you are thinking about breastfeeding, or you need assistance with your newborn once you’re at home, know that Preston Birth Center is here for you.
Preston Memorial Hospital and WIC (Women and Infant Children) offer free Breastfeeding classes for mothers-to-be, and new mothers. Parents can also use our newly featured Net Nursery to announce the birth of their new baby. Friends and family can visit the Preston Memorial Web site and access Net Nursery with a password and login name given to the parents. There they can view pictures, name, time of birth, weight, length and sex of the baby. Parents can ask in the Birth Center to have their baby added to our Nursery and we will do the rest!
