Preston Memorial Hospital to Benefit from Mollohan Funding
WASHINGTON—Congressman Alan Mollohan announced today that Preston Memorial Hospital will receive $275,000 in federal funding to expand its Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit.
Mollohan secured funding for Preston Memorial Hospital in the $151.5 billion fiscal year 2008 Labor, Health & Human Services, and Education Appropriations bill, which passed in the House by a vote 276-140 on Thursday.
“I am pleased that this money will help finance needed improvements to the hospital, which is a vital part of Preston County’s health-care network,” Mollohan said. “The funding will be used for projects that enhance patient care and accessibility—and in doing so, will help Preston Memorial meet the standards that are required of a Critical Access Hospital.”
Preston Memorial Hospital is a state-licensed, 25-bed, acute care facility located in Kingwood, West Virginia. Preston Memorial is recognized statewide for its leadership in rural health care--including its Preston Birth Center, 24-hour emergency department, respiratory therapy, diagnostic imaging, home health, and physical therapy services.
According to Preston Memorial Hospital Chief Executive Officer Michael Thompson, “we will use the funds to expand, renovate, and buy state of the art equipment to support our emergency department. We treat nearly 10,000 people a year in our emergency room. ERs can mean the difference between life and death. We thank Congressman Mollohan for his outstanding service and commitment to our community. His work will help us to provide the highest standard of medical care for our clients.”
“This funding is a worthwhile investment on the part of the federal government in the health and livelihood of the greater Preston County area,” Mollohan said. “Residents from Kingwood to Bruceton Mills will experience the positive influences of these funds for years to come.”
The Senate will now consider the bill before sending it to the President for his signature.
