Position Title: Coder

Department:Medical Records
Position Description: Abstracts demographic physician and patient information from patient's medical records and codes the diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9-CM/CPT codes. Audits and reports on the accuracy of procedural billing, payment consideration and accuracy in reimbursement based on the correct interpretation and application of codes, modifiers and payment rules. Correctly identifies and enters charges based upon documented procedures. Works in electronic billing system to address medical necessity, CCI and payor specific coding and payment rules. Assists Patient Financial Services personnel with denial appeal relating to diagnosis or CPT coding issues.

    Qualifications:
    Education:RHIT, CPC or CCS certification preferred.
    Experience:One year coding experience using ICD-9-CM and CPT codes required. Professional or hospital billing experience preferred.

    Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and a basic knowledge of medical procedures and disease states/processes required. Computer literacy and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
