KINGWOOD-The Wellness Council of West Virginia (WCWV) offered a free wellness workshop on November 28 at Preston Memorial Hospital (PMH) for Preston County Health Department and PMH employees. Over 30 people attended the event.
Speakers of the workshop included representatives from the Wellness Council and the American Cancer Society. The all day workshop entailed four 60-minute sessions and one 30-minute session. Topics covered in the workshop included Parenting, Families, and Work, Tobacco Cessation – Successful Quitters, Compassion Stress, Smart Living, and Depression at Work.
The goal of WCWV is to provide businesses with the highest quality, affordable and easy-to-use resources designed to successfully develop and manage a comprehensive worksite wellness program. WCWV strives to demonstrate that a healthy workforce is a productive workforce and that with healthier workers; absenteeism declines, health benefit costs are lowered, and work satisfaction, recruitment and retention increases.
PMH, a 25-bed, Critical Access Hospital, was the first hospital chosen in the state to host this workshop program. WCWV plans to offer similar workshops to other hospitals in the state. According to PMH Grant Writer Jennifer Funk, “the program is being provided by WCWV through a grant from the WV Division of Tobacco Prevention. The hospital and the health department would like to thank the Wellness Council of West Virginia and the WV Division of Tobacco Prevention for this opportunity.”
