General History
Preston Memorial Hospital is a state licensed, 25-bed critical access, acute care facility, located in Kingwood, WV. It is a nonprofit corporation and county owned. PMH opened its doors on July 16, 1955 and was formerly dedicated on September 29, 1955 during the annual Buckwheat Festival. Preston Memorial Hospital was dedicated to the memory of the men and women of Preston County who served in the armed forces and to those who paid the supreme sacrifice.

Serving the Needs of Northern West Virginia
Preston Memorial Hospital is a rural hospital with vision, diversity, stability and a future. While many hospitals, especially rural hospitals, are closing because of ever declining reimbursement for the services they provide, Preston Memorial Hospital continues to get stronger by offering new programs, new services, and operating more efficiently. Besides providing excellent healthcare services, Preston Memorial also is a strong contributor to the county’s economic status as it is the third largest employer in Preston County.

A Leader in Rural Healthcare
For over half a century Preston Memorial Hospital has been a leader in rural healthcare. In 1982 the Preston Birth Center was created. PMH’s birth center was one of the first full-service, in-hospital birth centers in West Virginia. The philosophy of labor, delivery, post-partum maternity care, all in the same room, is now the standard around the nation. Preston Birth Center remains one of the few comprehensive birth centers in the state which encourages family-centered maternity care.

Today, PMH’s continues to provide excellent rural healthcare services, especially in Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, and Outpatient services. Laboratory services are provided seven days week, twenty-four hours a day including microbiology, hematology, chemistry, coagulation, and urinalysis. The laboratory is accredited by AABB, Medicare, and the state of WV. It is staffed with qualified professionals, licensed by the State of WV and Federal Government (CLIA).

Diagnostic Imaging provides state-of the art equipment with services in the following areas: CT, MRI, Bone Denistometry, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and X-ray. All radiology physicians and staff are board certified. Diagnostic Imaging is certified by the state of WV, American College of Radiology, (ACR), is an accredited mammography facility, and a member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Outpatient services includes a variety of specialty services including Black Lung, Cardiology, ENT, Neurology, Occupational Medicine, Ophthalmology, Podiatry, Pulmonology, and Urology.

PMH offers a wide range of other services including a 24-hour physician staffed emergency department, critical care, respiratory therapy, physical therapy/fitness center, and home health.
